Montinola continued as a top contender in the Formula Dodge National Championship with numerous podium finishes.
In 2003, Montinola won the prestigious Barber-Champ Car Scholarship towards the Barber Dodge Pro Series where he contested in six events with a very limited amount of testing. For 2004 Montinola concentrated on looking for sponsors and took an opportunity to race the new Formula BMW with Jensen Motorsport at Road America and Laguna Seca. Montinola began the 2005 season in the Pro Star Mazda North American Championship with Team Bucknum Racing before withdrawing from the championship to re-evaluate his future racing career.
In 2008 Montinola hopes to compete in the world's best driver development series, the Champ Car Atlantic Championship, to climb the ladder towards the Champ Car World Series.
