Robbie Montinola began his racing career with the Skip Barber Racing School in 2000 when he enrolled in their 3-Day racing school. Montinola showed his natural talent and ability right away and quickly joined the 2001 Formula Dodge Western and National Championships. Since then, Montinola continued on to win the 2002 Formula Dodge Western Championship while being awarded the Most Improved Driver of the Year. Montinola continued as a top contender in the Formula Dodge National Championship with numerous podium finishes.

In 2003, Montinola won the prestigious Barber-Champ Car Scholarship towards the Barber Dodge Pro Series where he contested in six events with a very limited amount of testing. For 2004 Montinola concentrated on looking for sponsors and took an opportunity to race the new Formula BMW with Jensen Motorsport at Road America and Laguna Seca. Montinola began the 2005 season in the Pro Star Mazda North American Championship with Team Bucknum Racing before withdrawing from the championship to re-evaluate his future racing career.

In 2008 Montinola hopes to compete in the world's best driver development series, the Champ Car Atlantic Championship, to climb the ladder towards the Champ Car World Series. In addition to driving, Montinola enjoys coaching for the Skip Barber Racing School as well as private coaching for exotic owners and up-and-coming racecar drivers.
